To expand our spiritual growth, meditation is something many come to experience through the opportunities that life brings. Each time issues or struggles come into our life it’s a new opportunity to explore spirituality. How we respond or react to unforeseen circumstances in life has a lot to do with our spiritual evolution. Taking the time to regularly pause and reflect on them is beneficial to our overall well-being.
To achieve spiritual growth most would tell you meditation is the best tool to use. It does not matter what your beliefs are. Most would say they feel connected to something spiritual or carry some kind of divine energy within.
Individuals can tell just how spiritually conscious they are by their decisions and actions taken to approach situations in life. Along with their commitment to resolve conflicts successfully.
Spiritual Growth – Meditation
Most of society acknowledges meditation is an important part of spiritual development. Many individuals first begin meditation to relieve stress and anxiety, and reach some sort of peace within. Many start meditation courses or program out of curiosity. Individuals find the benefits are positive enough to stick with it. Some are motivated when they reach a point in their life that serves as a wake-up call, to start nurturing the spirit. Whatever the motivation served individuals to start meditation, it has a way to lead them to gently awaken spiritual consciousness.
If we fail to address our spiritual well-being it suffers just as physical neglect affects the body. In other words, if our spiritual health suffers it manifests itself in our relationships. In other words, our mental, emotional, and physical health suffers as well.
Learn to Sit and Be
Therefore, learning to just sit and be, for only 15 minutes each day can make a world of difference in your spirit, mind, and body. Clearly, this short time out of your day can have profound results in your life. The positive benefits of meditation will become apparent when you stick to it daily.
As a result, your energy will increase, and your mood will improve, becoming less stressed and emotionally reactive to situations. Your perceptions will shift, and in no time the people around you will experience the best version of you too.
Meditation for Physical, Mental and Emotional Wellbeing
Meditation is a practice with profound physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits. The key to these benefits, and the transformation it can bring, is developing a daily meditation practice. Consistency is essential.
Some people find it challenging to build a daily habit. Maybe it’s a lack of time, discipline, motivation, etc. I have studied habit-building science and developed all sorts of habits throughout my life. So here are some tips that I’d like to share, as they relate to creating a strong meditation practice.
(1) Start small. It’s better to start really small, so there is absolutely no excuse for you to skip your practice. For beginners, I usually recommend starting with 5min a day and increasing by 1 minute per week. This may sound too gradual, but at the end of one year, you’ll be practicing for 1h!
(2) Recommit. At the end of every session, commit to showing up for your practice the following day.
(3) Never zero. This means that every day you will practice, even if only 5 minutes. Make it a non-negotiable part of your life.
(4) No expectations. Nothing kills motivation quicker than unmet expectations. Most of the benefits from meditation come only after months or years of daily practice. So letting go of expectations sounds like a smart strategy to me.
(5) Be prepared. Sometimes you will feel tired, busy, or “not in the mood”. Be mentally prepared to meet those challenges with the “never zero” idea, and do the practice no matter what.
(6) Joyful attitude. Meditation is not a task, but a precious moment to go deep inside yourself. Enjoy the practice, and it will be easy to keep it up.
Hopefully, these tips can be helpful in your journey.
