Benefits of Meditation Taking Charge of Our Life

What are the Types of Perception?

Types of perception are the set of processes we use to make sense of all stimuli we encounter every second in our life. These are sensory impressions from where you get your information, from reading a post on FaceBook, or an itch on your arm providing input into what our perceptions might be. Perception allows us to navigate through life in order to know that this feeling means something or not.

Types of Perception-

The world around us is constantly full of stimuli to process, and understanding how we interpret them all can be a little overwhelming. Navigating the chaos in the world and getting lost in it, consider your perception of it! Let’s take a look at the different types of perception for a better understanding.

Sensory Perception

There are many definitions and theories of perception. Most define it as our ability to recognize, organize, and interpret sensory information about the world around us through sight (eyes), hearing (ears), touch, or feeling with hands(skin). Our taste buds on the tongue that sense sweetness/saltiness/bitterness in food. We have smell receptors inside the nose that can detect things of scent. Such as walking and becoming aware of flowers planted nearby. Perception deals with both external senses-sight, sound, etc, but we also have internal ones too. Such as feelers we have all over the body called somatosensory neurons. They relay feelings of temperature changes when something touches your skin for example. Sensory type of perception, everyone can relate to quickly.

Strengthen Perception

Emotional intelligence is a term that refers to the ability to perceive and express emotions effectively.

Cognitive processing is necessary to elicit emotional responses. At the same time, emotional responses modulate and guide cognitive processes in order to enable adaptive reactions towards our environment. Emotion determines how we perceive our world. Emotions decide and organize what information gets stored in memory during a certain period of time. We make important decisions based on these memories, whether positive or negative.

Our emotions provide embodied information about the costs and benefits of anticipated action, information that can be used automatically and immediately, circumventing the need for cogitating on the possible consequences of potential actions; for example, such as running away from a bear. Emotions (feelings of fear) thus provide a strong motivating influence on how our environment is perceived, and how we react to the situation at hand.

Memory Perception-types of perception

A person’s ability to remember information is a direct result of how he or she perceives it. We can’t remember what we don’t perceive. Our perception is directly influenced by the way we are feeling at the time. For example, four people witness a car accident, the police ask each person what happened. All four individuals have a slightly different interpretation of how the accident happened. One person could be in an agitated state when the accident happened. Another in a very good or happy mood, another in a peaceful calm emotional state, etc. As a result, each individual has a slight difference in their recollection of what had taken place. In other words, our emotions at any given time have an effect on our perception. What is stored in our memory is influenced by our emotions.

Another example, when you were a child and your family experienced a situation as a whole. You bring up that situation with your siblings years later. You will find that they will have a slight difference in their memory perception of what happened that day.

Types of Perception: Intellectual/Inner Perception-

Sharp Perception

A common mistake that people make is to confuse the concept of a mind with consciousness. The concept of a mind encompasses both Consciousness and intellectual perception, which are two different things.

Life is extraordinary and we experience it with all of our senses. If you want to perceive beyond the physical senses, meditation can take you there. “Once you bring an inner perception of life beyond the 5 senses, all levels of life will begin to happen the way you want”. “When you try to think about that which you have no access to, towards which you have no perception, all you can do is speculate.” (Sadhguru, Isha Foundation) https:isha.sadhguru.org

Anything that is not in our awareness does not exist for us. And only what you are aware of, can be handled and done about. If carefully examined, a large part of yourself becomes apparent as being outside the range we typically call “awareness”.

For example, when we are sleeping, the 5 senses shut down. We know nothing going on around us, we don’t even know where we go. Everything and everyone disappears, so do we.

Enhancing our awareness, and inner perception, which is not limited to our five sense organs; suddenly our life begins to happen in every area of life the way we want it to.

It does not matter whether you want to know the process of creation or just live peacefully, either way, there are things that can help enhance this understanding.
